OCTOBER 2024

Ask for a Bold and Fair Climate Action Plan
With catastrophic floods across Europe being linked to climate change, action on climate change has never been more important.
So, on 12th October, groups from across the UK will be asking their MPs to tell the Government to make a bold and fair climate action plan.

Friends of the Earth campaigners like you have worked over many years to force UK governments to make and stick to a plan to cut our greenhouse gas emissions.
On 12th October between 11.00am - 3.00pm we will be at the St Albans Cathedral Community Showcase

-
asking members of the public how they could benefit from climate actions like home insulation, less air pollution and green jobs
-
using this to persuade our MPs, Daisy Cooper and Victoria Collins, who will both be at the Community Showcase, to write to the Government asking for a bold and fair climate action plan.
You'll be given a full briefing, you'll be working alongside Greenpeace volunteers and other Friends of the Earth volunteers, and there'll be the chance to check out all the other great organizations at this exciting event.
If you can spare even just one hour, please indicate in this Doodle when you'd be free to help on 12th October. Thank you!
Right to a Healthy Environment
Whether it's the right to a river with no sewage, air with no health harming pollution or being able to sleep at night without being woken up by roaring planes, we should all have the right to a healthy environment - even the UN agrees.

On Friday 1st November at 11am, along with representatives of the Ver Valley Society, we'll be meeting with St Albans MP Daisy Cooper to ask if she will support the campaign for a healthy environment.
Are you affected by local pollution issues? If so, please can you get in touch with us by email? Our contact details are at the bottom of the page.

Your story can help show how this legislation isn't just a good idea generally, but also would directly help Daisy Cooper's constituents.
And you can help the campaign right now by sending your MP a postcard asking them to help in the fight against pollution.
March for Clean Water on Sunday 3rd November
We'll be joining other local water activists travelling down to London to join the March for Clean Water on Sunday 3rd November.

If you're sick of sewage and think that our rivers, lakes and seas should be clean to support people and wildlife, then put the date in your diary.

We're meeting at 9.30am at St Albans City station for a pre-march photo with Daisy Cooper - even if you can't come to the march, being part of the photo will demonstrate to our MP and the public the level of concern that there is for our rivers and seas.
Then it's on to London to fill the streets, ending in Parliament Square.
The official event will be from c11am to 3pm, it's going to be family-friendly and banners and fancy dress (ideally with a blue colour) are encouraged.

See you there!

Just a few places remain for our sociable evening of knitting the St Albans Friends of the Earth United for Warm Homes Community Scarf, kindly hosted by the skilled crafts people at Jefferson Eco.

We'll be knitting a community scarf with contributions from as many people as possible, to support our campaign for warm homes for all.

Only basic knitting skills are required.

Bring your own needles if you have them (size 6-8mm) and any odds and ends of wool that you have - or needles and wool will be provided on the evening.

Full instructions will be given and the accent will be on participation not perfection!

You will find Jefferson Eco at 46 London Rd, St Albans AL1 1NG

The United for Warm Homes campaign is pressing for:

-
financial help for those who can't afford to keep warm
-
A nationwide roll out of insulation
-
An energy network based on home grown, renewable energy.
The scarf we create will be used for a press photo, then as part of a national stunt - and we will try and ensure that it ends life in useful lengths for those who need a little extra warmth this winter.

Everyone is welcome but space is limited so book your place now. Only a few spaces remaining!
