Tell Herts County Council that we want safer streets
Back in September I asked you to tell your Herts County Councillor that you wanted a Speed Management Strategy that allowed speed limits to be decided on the basis of safety and the environment, not on the current speed of vehicles.

And you did - Councillors reported that they received more emails on this than on any other issue.

We need your help again. There is a meeting of the Highways Cabinet Panel at Herts County Council on 19 November to discuss amendments to the Speed Management Strategy.

If we can collect 250 signatures on this petition, a member of our campaign team will be able to address that meeting, putting the arguments for town/village wide 20mph limits.
These include:

-
Safety - a vehicle travelling at 20mph is seven times less likely to kill someone than at 30mph

-
Less air pollution - lower speeds mean less acceleration and also more walking and cycling because people feel safer.

-
Less noise pollution - and doesn’t significantly affect journey times.

-
Better for the local economy - lower speeds support active and sustainable travel and encourages people to walk and cycle to local shops.

We have until just 13 November to collect 250 signatures.
Will you take a minute to sign the petition now?
Unless we can persuade the Herts County Council Highways Cabinet Panel to enable town/village wide 20mph areas in the Speed Management Strategy now, it will be almost impossible for 20mph to become the default speed limit in St Albans or anywhere else in the county.

Yes, I'll sign the petition now.
Thank you!
